JIENDELEZE WOMEN

We are currently supporting around forty women, and indirectly their families, equating to approximately 200 people.  Prior to joining our group, these women were living on less than USD $2 per day.  Realistically they need around USD $10 per day to support themselves, their children, and their extended families.  Some of these women are struggling alone, with husbands who had either died or left them.  Others are in polygamous relationships, putting them at risk of neglect, abuse and/or sexually transmitted infections.  The women live in poor housing, consisting of just one or two rooms, often with multiple people and families sharing those rooms.  They do not have electricity, requiring them to spend most of their money on kerosene to provide some light.  Joining Jiendeleze has enabled them to generate their own funds, giving them a sense of increased self worth.  The women can now do more to support themselves.  However, breaking the cycle of poverty is not a quick fix.  Whilst our goal is to see these women out of poverty, in the short term we aim to help them make their lives better.

Testimonial
- “I never knew if money can make rude husband calm, he no longer abuses me I know I am capable of doing on my own.”

The group was formed in 2010 by a young Tanzania woman named Jesca Olotu while studying as a university student working toward a diploma in law.  From childhood, Jesca’s dream was to help the women and children of her community and country to learn their rights and how to support themselves and their families.  Jesca has made this dream a reality and is currently helping 40 women in the Jiendeleze group who are learning skills to help themselves and their families escape the grip of poverty that is so prominent in Tanzania and other developing countries.
